Shakespeare has been one of the great loves of my career and I want to share it with dedicated actors to deepen their love of the classics.

Shakespeare was always meant to be performed and not just read.

I never liked Shakespeare at school. Reading it in class was boring and confusing to me.

In my late teens, I had to learn a Hamlet monologue for an audition and had done little more than cram the words into my skull. I knew what it meant but I still felt nothing. I didn’t feel or see the relevance of the text. I had been told it was great work but the passion for it wasn’t mine. Yet, I was curious to discover what all the fuss was about.

On a stormy night wandering a beach on Stradbroke Island, alone with my youthful angst, I bellowed the words I’d learned to the wind. At the time, I was very confused about what I wanted to do with my life. I left lost and angry. As ‘Oh that this too too solid flesh would melt, thaw and resolve itself it a dew’ leaped from my soul, I finally felt something. All the angst I felt, as if by magic, became one with the words. It was like I was saying the words for the first time. It was as if my feelings mixed with the feelings of someone just like me. The rage, betrayal and anger poured out of me into the beach and I was transported into someone else. The words were big enough for me to express what I felt. I’d finally worked out what the all the fuss was about.

The experience made me want to learn more and discover more. I went on to perform in plays and in school shows and eventually had contact with every play Shakespeare has written. I found marvelous ways to make the text make sense very quickly and create images sparked by the words. I now have a love of decoding the sonnets and making the poetry work for me to give it a sense of reality.

I now would like to share all that I know.

I have constructed a course to share this passion for Shakespeare and I’d like to invite you to be a part of it.

We will look at Sonnets, Monologues and great scenes from the plays.

We’ll explore the comedy and tragedy of all the scenes.

We’ll discover why the stories and ideas from Shakespeare’s plays are used as the backbone of many great movies, TV series and new plays. Why these classics are still being performed in film and on stage throughout the world.

Please inquire below.

I look forward to hearing from you.
